Wimpy – Enjoy Every Moment

Wimpy Burgers- a chain of hamburger restaurants – was opened in United Kingdom in 1930 by Eddi Gold, named so after the cartoon character J. Wellington Wimpy who was extremely fond of burgers. After a takeover by J. Lyons and Co., the first “Wimpy Bar” was opened in 1954 and by 1970, the chain had expanded to over a thousand restuarants in 23 countries. A major portion of these outlets was sold to Grand Metropolitan and converted to Burger King restaurants but still there are outlets in some towns and cities, at Roadshef motorway services and at the Dundee Megabow and Namco Funscape Newcastle (XS Superbowl) bowling alleys.

Wimpy is well known for its burger called the Bender, with a frankfurter sausage in place of a hamburger patty. In addition, there is a variety of BBQ burgers, Cheeseburgers, Bacon burgers and Spicy bean burgers on menu. A typical “Wimpy Hamburger” comprises a beef patty served with fresh lettuce, juicy tomatoes, onions and ketchup on a white bun.  The buns are available in varieties like white – oat topped, kaiser – maize topped and whole wheat- oat topped.

For the grill lovers, a must try range is available with Steak platter, BBQ Rack rib platter, Chicken platter, Susages, Eggs and chips. You can also try the eye pleasing “Open Burgers” served with Mushrooms, Mixed Salad, Grated Cheese, Eggs, Bacon, Onions, Tomatoes and fries as per choice. Wimpy also serves chicken burgers, chicken fillets and fish Haddock and chips.

There is also a good range of breakfast meals, kids’ meals, hot and cold drinks, smoothies and for those who want something special, Wimpy menu has on offer exotic desserts like Eskimo waffle, Brown Berry and a variety of its own sundaes.
