Burgerville – Fresh, Local, Sustainable…

Burgerville, a privately held American restaurant chain, was founded by George Propstra in Vancouver, Washington in 1961.  Today there are around 39 locations in the Oregan, Southwest washington, mostly in the Portland Metropolitan Area.

Burgerville is known for its progressive business practices and commitment to local resources. The chain uses 100% wind power for all its restaurants and headquarters. It uses only Trans fat-free canola oil and sends 7500 gallons per month into processing for biodiesel. In 2004, Burgerville switched to range-feed beef raised without hormones and antibiotics and in 2007, it began composting food waste which is expected to result in an 85% reduction in waste, saving 100,000$ annually.

Famous for its mouthwatering Northwest menu with the freshest ingredients around, the chain offers Hamburgers, Vegetarian Burgers, Chicken & turkey Sandwiches and Halibut fish & Chips. The significant difference is the usage of local, natural ingredients like Tillamook Cheddar in the hamburgers and locally grown strawberries in the milkshakes and sundaes.

Throughout the year, Burgerville serves seasonal items like milkshakes made with Hazelnut, Fresh Pumpkins, Fresh Raspberries, Blackberries & Strawberries. You can also order side dishes such as Walla Walla Onion Rings, Sweet potato fries and Yukon Gold Potatoes. There is also a range of salads, Healthy, crunchy and full of Northwest flavor, Fresh Iced Teas, Lemonades & sodas, Kids’ meals, Health Alternatives in burgers & sandwiches.

The chain was named by Gourmet magazine as having the freshest fast food in the country in 2003, with offerings such as a salad with smoked salmon and Oregon hazelnuts. Also in 2007, Burgerville was awarded with the “Better Burger” award at the 1st Annual food Network Awards.
