Lets get Veggie….

A veggie burger is a hamburger where the meat is replaced with a patty made from vegetables, e.g., texture vegetable protein (soy meat), legumes, nuts, dairy products, mushrooms, wheat or eggs.

It is believed that the veggie burger, by name, was created in London in 1982 by Gregory Sams, who called it the ‘VegeBurger’. Gregory ran a natural food restaurant in Paddington with his brother Craig. The product was instantly loved by people and a Carrefour hypermarket in Southampton sold 2000 packets in just three weeks after its launch.

Today, McDonald’s and KFC serve veggie burgers in places like India where vegetarianism is widespread. The veggie burger is now a regular part of menu in following countries with different name and taste.

  • Bahrain
  • Canada: Patty made by Yves Veggie Cusine

  • Malaysia
  • Netherlands: Groenteburger
  • Sweden: McGarden

In USA, veggie burgers are available in Burger King and its franchise Hungry jack’s restaurants, certain Subways, Harvey’s as well as chain restaurants such as Red Robin, Chilis, Denny’s, Johnny Rockets, Ruby Tuesday’s and Hard Rock Café.

Also, non-meat burgers are sold in supermarkets worldwide, often semi-prepared with a minimum effort required to cook..
