Here are some interesting information about the Burges, which may or may not be known by you already, but it is definitely worth knowing.

  • The hamburger bun was invented in 1916 by a fry cook named Walter Anderson, who co-founded White Castle in 1921.
  • The Rite Spot, Circa 1925, Pasadena, California Lionel Sternberger claims to have invented the cheeseburger.
  • Kaelin’s Restaurant, 1934, Louisville, Kentucky. Claims to have invented the cheeseburger in 1934.
  • Humpty Dumpty Drive-In, 1935, Denver, Colorado. A trademark for the name cheeseburger was awarded to Louis Ballast of the Humpty Dumpty Drive-In in 1935.
  • Ted’s Restaurant, 1959; Meriden, Connecticut, uses steam to cook their cheeseburgers.
  • “Double decker” or simply “Double” is the word used for a hamburger with two patties.
  • Similarly a burger with three patties is known as “Triple”.
  • “Slopper” is a hamburger with either green or red chile, which is more famous in southern USA.
  • “Slider” is a small hamburger patty sprinkled with onions on an equally small bun. As it is small in size it can be slided from your mouth in one or two bytes, which make it call so.
  • “Juicy Lucy” or “Jucy Lucy” is a burger having cheese inside the meat patty rather than on top. While preparing, a piece of cheese is surrounded by raw meat and cooked until it melts. When eating Jucy Lucy one needs to be careful as when eating it may happen that the hot cheese result into burning of tounge, so restaurants often warns the customers to let the burger cool before attacking the same.
